Just Can’t Get Enough

…of those crinkly toys.  Officially, every toy Silas picks up goes straight to his mouth.  His coordination isn’t the best and sometimes he gets his hands, but he seems pretty happy with fingers most of the time, even if the intent was something softer and cuter.  You should see the way he attacks Zebe the zebra and Gee the giraffe.  Zeal, I tell you.

Yup.  The kid is a slobbery mess and can’t get a decent nap.  Methinks we’ve got an early teether on our hands.

We had visitors on Friday!  Kait and Oliver came to visit.  I failed to take any pictures except these few:

We also spent the weekend in Champaign to celebrate the birthday of Tim’s sister, Sara.  It was a bit of a rough time for baby Boo, but all in all it was a happy visit and it was good to celebrate with the whole fam.

The week ahead doesn’t hold much for us, and we are grateful.  We are going to try to get back into a happy baby routine and relax this week with this guy.

Three Months Old!

Happy three months on the planet to our little big boy!  He is so sweet.

Weight:  14 pounds on the nose!  Holy cow.

Favorite things:  being naked, singing with Mommy, playing on the activity mat, sitting in the highchair to look around, grinning at Daddy after work

New tricks:  grabbing at crinkly toys!  doing the “superman” on his belly, Jillian Michaels style

Our Weekend in Photos

This weekend, Silas welcomed his Grammie and Papa Ballard to town for a few days.  He has grown so much since they were last here!  It was fun to see them, and Silas was such a sweet boy the whole time they were visiting.

They brought him Skip Hop’s owl toy with crinkly wings for Valentine’s Day and he loves it!  He was talking to it and smiling at it and looked terribly thrilled when he got an accidental hold on one of the wings.

We had a relaxing weekend with good food and good sleep.  Si is such a content baby almost all the time and he is getting to be so much fun.

He’s even thinking about starting a revolution.  That’s our boy!
He discovered his fist this week and spends a lot of time staring at it, and he reached for a toy this morning for the first time.  Go baby go!

That’s about it for our weekend.  Pretty laid back and relaxing.  Friday, Honey will come to visit and Saturday we will trek to Illinois for Aunt Sara’s birthday.  Baby on the go!

Our Valentine

So, it’s no surprise that Valentine’s Day changes a little when you have a bambino, and our day ended up being very sweet indeed.

Tim and I both worked and were off early to enjoy one of our first beautiful days in the 50s.  To celebrate our little family, we decided to bundle up Boo and take a walk down our long lane.  Si hasn’t been out yet except to go back and forth to the car, so we were excited to get him into the fresh air.  He grinned every time the breeze touched his face.  We were cracking up.  Isn’t Timmy a cute dad?

Obviously, after he was grinning at the wind, it didn’t take him long to conk right out.  I think it’s safe to say he loves the outdoors already.  Score one for his Daddy.

We went out to eat last weekend for Valentine dinner and when it was time to pay, someone had already paid for our meal!  That has never happened to us, and we don’t know many people here, so we are still trying to figure it out.  Regardless, it was such a lovely surprise!

On real Valentine’s Day, we knew we would be staying in with our often-evening-fussy babe.  I cooked our lovely grass fed steak, french onion soup, asparagus spears, and a wedge salad.  We even splurged on dessert with a Black and Tan cupcake from Scholar’s Inn Bakehouse, which is Tim’s all time favorite dessert and maybe even mine.  It tastes like the best Ding Dong or Swiss Cake Roll you have ever had in your life.  We popped our traditional Veuve Clicquot as well, which always reminds us of our honeymoon in Rome.  It was fitting for the most romantic holiday of the year.

Here is our Valentine’s Day loot.  It doesn’t look like much, but it sure made us all feel loved.  Silas had a package from Honey and Poppy, I got a super long massage with Monica-with-hands-of-steel at Les Champs Elysee (my favorite gift of all time) and Tim got a weekend in Chicago at our favorite hotel and two Cubs tickets with plans for Grammie and Papa to be on baby patrol so we can have an adult outing.  I also took a cue from Misha to make a jar with fun, baby-friendly outings around Bloomington for date ideas.  Most of them are free and outdoorsy, a few will require our sweet neighbors to keep Si, and all of them are things we have never done before.  Bring on the first year of parenthood and keeping love alive!

Here’s to all the rest of the days of the year when people need just as much love as they did on Valentine’s Day, and to loving the people in our lives even when they are driving you nuts.  It happens, but it’s important.

Pretty woods.  Pretty baby.  Pretty mild winter…
What else could we ask?

We had the most beautiful, peaceful, fairy tale snow the other day.  Then, it all melted and we had a few sunny days in the 50s that made this little family totally giddy.

We had a lot of fun this week with a visit from Silas’ great grandfather, Papaw Roger!  Si also decided he really likes to sit like a big boy in his high chair and look at his black and white book.  He likes to make hilarious noises at the butterfly, especially.

This weekend, we will be doing home projects since Tim is going to be here.  (He worked more than 60 hours the past week, including all of last weekend.)  To celebrate, we spent our Friday night trying to get a family picture while we played in the nursery.
We get to meet a new baby this weekend!  Silas will have his first experience of not being the smallest human in the room.  Woop woop!  Congratulations to Matt and Alyssa on the second babe’s arrival.

This is what we do

I feel like we have turned into a baby blog for the last 2 months and had some guilt about not doing more home projects, but then I got several requests for baby pictures.  He is changing so much, so we are happy to oblige!  We pretty much hang out at home and play with him all the time. Ah, the life of new parents.

We tried out the Ergo this week and he likes it!  Especially in the evenings when he wants to be held and walked.  He used to be pretty colicky from 7-10 at night with lots of crying and bellyaches, but in the last few weeks we have transitioned to an earlier fussy period with no crying as long as we don’t sit down with him.  We’ll take it!  He has been in bed by nine for almost a week and is sleeping well most nights with just a few wake ups to eat.  The boy’s appetite never sleeps for long…

He is so happy and expressive in the mornings, and he is adding a happy window to that in the evenings. It’s great for Tim because he was missing those early happy hours when he was at work–now Silas is so happy to see Tim when he gets home, and Tim is adorable bantering with him.

He is still a champion eater (obviously) and he really loves his morning naps, so it is a constant battle as to which will win.

I keep trying to upload a video and am having stress.  Going to try another route in a separate post.  Kendra, how do I do this??
